Free Trade Zones (FTZs) facilitate economic growth and are fundamental to an integrated global economy. Their significance is growing as globalization continues to define economic progress. Nevertheless, many FTZs are highly vulnerable to illicit trade and money laundering. A significant proportion of illicit tobacco is either manufactured in or shipped through FTZs.
